Simple Sambar Recipe

Ingredients(1 cup):

  • 1/2 cup tuvar dal(pigeon pea lentils)
  • 1 to 1.5 cup cleaned and chopped vegitables like fresh beans, potato,onions,tomatoes
  • 2-3 tablespoon tamarind water
  • 1 to 1.5 tablespoon sambar powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon turmeric powder

For Tempering:

  1. 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
  2. 1 tablespoon geera
  3. 3-5 curry leaves
  4. fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  5. pinch of asafoetida

Instructions:


  1. In a pressure cooker add dal,2 to 3 cup water ,vegitables, turmeric powder and cook it for 2 whistles.
  2. Once the pressure settles down on its own remove the lid and add sambar powder, tamarind again cook it till you get bubble.
  3. According to taste add salt to it and cover.

Tempering for sambar recipe:-

  1. in a small pan, heat oil and ghee. crackle the mustard seeds first
  2. then add geera, asafoetida,curry leaves
  3. fry 3-5 secounds and switch off the stove and add this into the sambar which we prepared like above.
  4. Add chopped fresh coriander leaves
